Instructions for using the Online Photo Archive

Bildarchiv der Yannick Andrea GmbH, Fotograf SBF, Fotograf Graubünden, Schweiz

General information

The online photo archive of Yannick Andrea GmbH is a Swiss photo archive based in Filisur / Graubünden and is mainly aimed at the self-employed, companies and businesses (B2B).

The themes of the photo archive are the mountain regions of Switzerland. Reports, portraits and long-term projects are uploaded over time and form a focal point alongside individual photos. Daily news and sports coverage are not published.

The photo archive offers exclusively photographs, which were taken digitally and analog since the year 2000.

The photographs are offered with the license model "Rights Managed" in different categories.

Contracts are not available for all types of use "Model Release" and "Property Realease". This can be seen in the image detail view under "Endorsement".

The display of the image archive is optimised for a resolution of 1,680 pixels or higher.

Image sizes

The photographs are mainly available with a size of 6'000 x 4'000 pixels, which corresponds to 51cm x 34cm at 300 DPI. This is slightly more than a double page spread for the most common magazines and is sufficient in most cases.

Photographs from the noughties (2000 - 2008) are available as scans (with the Flextight Photo Scanner / Nikon Coolscan 5000ED / Nikon Coolscan 8000ED) of 35mm slides in the format 24mm x 36mm and medium format slides in the format 6cm x 7cm (marked in the image view under "endorsement") between 3'500 and 8'000 pixels on the long side and the first digital photographs from 3'000 pixels on the long side. The scans are marked under "Endorsement" as to whether they have already been optimized or whether the dust and scratches are still pending.

Some photographs are available larger than 6'000 pixels on the long side. These are named with the "code keywords", see under "Image size" below.

Panoramas: "Panorama" refers to photographs with an angle of view of more than 120 degrees ( = larger than 14mm focal length in 35mm), which are composed of several shots either from single-line and or multi-line overlapping shots. In the image description in the image detail view the approximate image angle is given for panoramas. These photographs can be found in the Panoramas category.
Photographs with the aspect ratio (2:1, 3:1 or 4:1) are not necessarily panoramas. Photographs with the "Special Format" > "Panorama" search filter are photographs with undefined aspect ratios with an angle of view greater than 120 degrees.

Naming of the photographs

Each photograph is accompanied by a corresponding description of the image context.

Names of villages, landscapes, valleys, areas and mountains refer to the national maps of Switzerland from Swisstopo. The biogeographical classification according to the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) as of 2022 with the subdivision according to the swiss alpine club (SAC), wich is similar to the Alpenvereinseinteilung of the Eastern Alps (AVE). Each country (CH, FR, IT, AT) uses there own regulations.

Names of plants and animals are based on the general nomenclature and, if clearly appropriate, are designated with the German and Latin names.

The labeling of the image content is always from left to right and from bottom to top.

Processing of the photographs

The photographs are not "pixel-added", meaning that adjustments have been made in the image processing by means of brightness, contrast, etc., but no additional pixels (image content from the same image or another file) have been added.

The photographs are authentic in terms of photographic representation and situation on the spot, and are not processed by means of AI (artificial intelligence, so-called "sky replacement", content-based filling, etc.). The photographs are perceived according to human vision.

Longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations (lens aberrations) are removed. Any vignetting (lens error) is removed by profile, or the LCC process is applied. Any brightness and image noise (sensor error) is reduced or eliminated.

Any dirt on the sensor (dust, hair, etc.) is removed and checked with a special procedure. In rare cases it can happen with medium format equipment that a sensor edge becomes visible in even, gradient color areas, this will also be retouched away.

In the case of portraits, non-permanent features can be made invisible. This is noted in the image description.

In the case of panorama shots, any shifts that may occur when stitching the individual photos into a panorama are retouched (selectively). Logical image errors related to moving objects during the panorama photo shoot are retouched so that moving objects that can be seen in several individual photos are only seen once in the panorama shot.

In portrait, reportage and interior shots, flash can be used to create an emphasis / statement / underline. This is noted in the image description.

For personality-relevant images without model release, these can be displayed pixelated. The unpixelated original image files are reserved for the online image archive.

The photographs are taken as RAW files and processed on a hardware calibrated monitor and provided in Adobe RGB 1998 color space as JPEG files.

Shopping Baskets

To create a shopping cart, click on the icon "Shopping Cart" in the search results, the photograph will be added to the cart and displayed below the menu list in the shopping cart window as a small square thumbnail and the thumbnail in the search view will be marked dark grey. The dark grey marking of the thumbnail remains until you have completed the order process, changed the shopping cart or deleted the photograph from the shopping cart (by clicking on the icon "ton" below the thumbnail in the result display or by "delete" in the shopping cart).
You can continue with your search directly and only at the end of your search click on the "shopping cart" button to select the types of use.

You can give your shopping baskets appropriate names by adding a description in the field "without name" and confirming this by clicking on the button "Rename". The selected name will now be listed in the field.
As long as you have not yet completed the ordering process of a shopping basket, the last active shopping basket at logout will be displayed after a new login.

Order process

When you have finished your search click on the button "shopping cart".
If you have not yet assigned a usage type to the photographs, you can assign the identical usage type to all selected photographs in the shopping cart by selecting a usage type for one photograph and clicking on the button "Assign Rights Managed for all", provided it corresponds to the actual usage (depending on the assigned category, "Rights Managed" will be replaced by the corresponding price category).
Alternatively, you can assign different usage types for each individual photograph.
Without a fully selected usage type for each photograph, the order process cannot be completed. A missing usage type will be displayed in red italics for the respective item.
You can remove an item from the shopping cart by clicking on the "Delete" button.
Then click on "Checkout" and select the payment method. With "continue" you will get to the overview of your order. With "Buy" the order process is completed and a legally binding contract is concluded.
