FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - of the Online Photo Archive

Bildarchiv der Yannick Andrea GmbH, Fotograf SBF, Fotograf Graubünden, Schweiz

Photographs

In which image formats are the photographs available?
All photographs in the online photo archive are available in high quality resolution in JPEG format in Adobe RGB 1998 color space. If you need TIFF data, please contact me.

Can RAW data be obtained?
No. The RAW data is reserved for the photo archive and will not be made accessible.

A higher resolution of a photograph is required, how should I proceed?
Basically, the photographs are available in the size as they are found in the online photo archive (approx. 6'000 x 4'000 pixels) and are therefore immediately available after the order process. With the filter "Image size" on the left side you can filter the search results according to your needs, if you are looking for larger image files. Please contact me after your successful search with your image request (please specify image ID). In very large image files, the number of pixels are indicated in the image description (if over 14'000 pixels on the long side).

How are the photographs processed?
The photographs are not processed "pixel added", which means that adjustments were made in the image processing by means of brightness, contrast, etc., but no additional pixels (image content from the same image or another file) were added. Longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations are removed. Any vignetting is removed using profiles, or the LCC process is applied. Any brightness and image noise is reduced or eliminated.
Any dust spots (sensor) are retouched away. In rare cases, a sensor edge may be visible in medium-format images in uniform, gradient color areas; this is also removed. In the case of portraits, non-permanent features can be made invisible.

In the case of portraits, non-permanent features can be made invisible. This is noted in the image description.

In the case of panorama shots, any shifts that may occur when stitching the individual photos into a panorama are retouched (selectively). Logical image errors related to moving objects during the panorama photo shoot are retouched so that moving objects that can be seen in several individual photos are only seen once in the panorama shot.

See here for details about processing the photographs.

Are the photographs processed with AI?
No. "Sky replacement", "Smart portrait", "Content based fill" etc. are not applied.

Are AI-generated "promptographies" offered (images generated by means of an image generator)?
No. The online photo archive only offers authentic photographs that comply with the rules of the World Press Awards.

The layout data have color separations. Do the print data also have this?
No. Due to the compressed layout view, this can occur with very homogeneous areas. The print data do not have color separations (verifiable in the image page view in the 100% view).

The sum of all unique users of the Internet domains is decisive for the price for online use.

If it is a matter of "simple" multiple uses, the corresponding uses can be selected after logging in to the image view in the fee calculator under "Type of use" > "Print" > " Period of use" (e.g. double use) > "Placement". In addition, the usage can be extended to " Complementary Uses" accordingly. If the multiple uses are more diverse, the photo archive can be contacted with the intended uses in the contact form.

Licences / Rights

What is a license?
A license is transferred by the owner of a copyrighted work to third parties with a defined and time-limited right of use.

The desired use (license) is not listed with a photograph, can the photograph still be used?
No. If the desired use is not listed, no license can be issued for this photograph and therefore it cannot be used.

What does "Rights Managed" (RM) mean?
With "Rights Managed" (RM) it is possible to use photographs exclusively for a period of time to be defined, without anyone else having the opportunity to use the same photograph. With this type of licensing, it is also possible to retroactively track whether a photograph has already been used.
The license fee is calculated according to a designated use for the once defined use.
In the online image archive, the various "Rights Managed" categories are shown directly below the image name in the image view.

What does "Rights Managed Example License" mean?
This form is only in the category "Public" as an example and is not applied. The license calculator is restricted and not fully visible. The price is chosen as an example and purely fictitious.

What does "Rights Managed "Normal" Licence" mean?
With "Rights Managed "Normal" Licence" most photographs are offered which are not in another category of other "Rights Managed" (Aerial Photo, People, before-after).

What does "Rights Managed "Aerial Small" Licence" mean?
With "Rights Managed "Aerial Photograph small" Licence" aerial photographs are offered which have been taken with a possible authorisation and with a quadrocopter (drone) (only visible if registered).

What does "Rights Managed "Aerial" Licence" mean?
With "Rights Managed "Aerial Photo" Licence", aerial photos are offered which were taken with an aircraft such as helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft and delta aircraft or paraglider (only visible if registered).

What does "Rights Managed "Model" License" mean?
With "Rights Managed "Model" License", photographs are offered on which persons engaged for the photo shoot can be seen. Depending on the situation of the person depicted, the "Model Release" rights must be clarified.

What does "Rights Managed "Before-After" License" mean?
With "Rights Managed "Before-After" License" two photographs are offered in one image file, which show the same location at different times.

What does "Model Release editorial" mean?
An existing "Model Release editorial" confirms that an imaged person has given their permission for an editorial use.
In the online photo archive this is shown in the picture view under "Note", above the button "Download Lauyot" (only visible when logged in).

What does "Model Release Commercial" mean?
An existing "Model Release Commercial" confirms that an imaged person has given his or her permission for commercial use.
In the online photo archive, this is displayed in the picture view under "Note", above the button "Download Lauyot" (only visible when logged in).

What does "Property Release" mean?
An existing "Property Release" confirms that e.g. a depicted trademark or otherwise protected objects (houses, furniture, etc.) has been clarified and that the photograph can be used for advertising purposes. Without a "Property Release", a photograph can only be used in an editorial context with reference to the object, but not for commercial content.
In the online photo archive, this is shown in the image view under "Note", above the button "Download Lauyot" (only visible when logged in).

Social Media

Can the photographs be used on social media platforms?
No. When uploading content (photos, videos etc.) to social media platforms, extensive rights of use are assigned to the respective platform operators. It is therefore no longer possible to offer the "Rights Managed" model. For this reason it is not possible to purchase licences for social media platforms.

Answers to questions regarding resolution and usage can be found in the glossary.
